This tour is a great introduction to the Chilean Lake District and the Andes. There’s some exciting ‘road’ action as you criss-cross the border with Argentina, skirting lakes and crossing Andean mountain passes. Sightseeing highlights include the spectacular snow-capped volcanoes, emerald green waterfalls and picturesque lakes of the area, the Argentine mountain resort of San Carlos de Bariloche, Arrayanes Park, Ventisquero National Park, Puerto Varas and Andean Larch National Park with its 60 metre high, 3000 year old trees.

All trips to Chile are temporarily suspended.

Itinerary

Day 1 Depart UK.

Day 2 Arrive Osorno. We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to our hotel, where you will meet the team and your fellow riders at our Welcome Dinner. Overnight Osorno.

DAY 2 Osorno - Bariloche (320 km). After collecting your motorcycle, today’s ride is a great introduction to this beautiful country. Lunch is in Villa La Angostura, and there’s time for a bit of sightseeing. We continue along the shores of the beautiful Lago Nahuel Huapi, with its forests of cypresses and coihues, on a winding asphalt road for about 60 km. There are excellent views of Isla Huemul and the imposing Hotel Llao Llao. We then cross the border into Argentina and head for our 4* hotel in the mountain resort of San Carlos de Bariloche, a picture postcard Swiss-style town with a lake, old larches and even chocolates!

DAY 3 Bariloche (200 km).  We leave Bariloche on route 258. This route follows the shoreline of Lake Gutierrez with Mount Catedral to the right. We then reach Lake Mascardi and take the eastern shore road. Then we hit the gravel road towards Rio Manso and choose between visiting Cascada Los Alerces or going straight to Tronador. 90 km from San Carlos de Bariloche is Mount Tronador (3478 m). The area around Tronador is one of the most glacially active regions of the Patagonian Andes one of the few places in the world where you can appreciate black glacial ice. Lunch in Pampa Linda. We then head back to Bariloche.

DAY 4 Bariloche – San Martin (360 km). We take the beautiful Seven Lakes Road to Villa Traful, then leave in the direction of Confluencia Traful and after 5 km we reach Mirador del Traful. This is the most important panoramic point, which you can reach by walking down a flight of wooden steps. There are two balconies built into the top of the cliff. These cliffs fall directly into the waters of Lake Traful. Overnight in San Martín.

DAY 5 San Martin – Pucon (200 km gravel). Today’s exciting ride takes you off the main tourist routes. We ride over the Araucarias Pass in the Andes and cross back into Chile. There’s an optional side trip to the Huife Thermal fountain before we head on to the Villarica volcano and lake. This is unspoilt mountain beauty. Overnight in Pucon.

DAY 6 Pucon. Today’s ride takes us to Villarrica and Calbuco volcanoes. We leave Pucón and head for Lake Caburgua. After 15 km we turn left to "Los Ojos del Caburgua", the eyes of the Caburgua. This is a group of deep holes filled by underground waters of Lake Caburgua. They are surrounded by jungle like vegetation and have a magnificent turquoise colour. We then return to Pucon.

CHI - SG7DAY 7 Pucon - Valdivia (300 km tarmac). Today’s ride takes us back across Chile to the Pacific coast. Here we visit the forts at Corral and Niebla.  Lunch is in a typical seafood restaurant in Los Molinos. In Valdivia, apart from visiting colourful parks, local museums and taking excursions to see the 19th century German architecture, you can taste the different types of fresh beer characteristic of this place. “Cervecería Kunstmann” is a 3-minute drive from the city down the coast road to Niebla. In this cosy, joyful, informal environment you can drink one of the best beers in the country while enjoying their special food menu. You can visit the Beer Museum and learn about the German Beer Tradition in the city, which is more than 100 years old. In the Museum you will see some old machines used in making beer and also some old Chilean labels and bottles.

DAY 8 Valdivia - Puerto Varas. Today’s ride takes us to Puerto Octay, Osorno volcano, Saltos del Petrohué and Todos los Santos lake.  Along the southern coast of Lake Llanquihue, in a 132 km return drive from Puerto Varas, we can visit Lake Todos los Santos and Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, important Chilean conservation areas, created in 1926.  Osorno volcano is situated 59 km north-east of Puerto Varas. At a height of 2661 m, it is visible from almost anywhere in the provinces of Osorno and Chiloé, and is an omnipresent figure in the CHI - Sg10landscape of the region.  Most of the roads today are paved.

DAY 9 Puerto Varas - Ancud. Todays’s ride takes us to Chiloé Island. The inhabitants of Chiloè are known throughout Chile for their folklore traditions, based on a local legends. The Museo Regional Aurelio Bòrquez Canobra in Ancud includes a series of stone statues representing figures from local folklore. The museum also has a replica of the wooden boat that carried the early colonial settlers to southern Chile in the mid-19th century. Overnight in Ancud.

DAY 10 Puerto Varas - Osorno (80 km tarmac). Our final ride brings you back to Osorno, allowing plenty of time to experience the view from the top of the beautifully symmetrical Osorno volcano, ‘the Fujiyama of the Andes’, shop or sightsee before our Farewell Dinner.

Day 11 Depart Osorno. We will take you back to the airport for your flights home.

Day 12 Arrive UK.
