Desert Offroad Tour *** NEW for 2011 ***
We had the time of our lives. Thank you for giving us enough rope to be knowingly out of control but with the knowledge that if it all went wrong we could not have been in better hands with you folks. You are without doubt total pro’s in your individual field of work and play.
Ian Everett, Feb 2010
This new tour is aimed at those who are limited in time but would love to experience a bit of the best off-road biking that Morocco can offer:
- 4 days biking plus your days of arrival and departure.
- Nearly 90% of the tour is off-road and offers spectacular trails combined with dramatic mountain landscapes and awesome views.
- The night out in the desert bivouac is also always a tour highlight... plus
- Beautiful winding trails, gorges, rocky climbs, and some big wash-outs!
- 2,500m mountain passes with spectacular scenery
- river crossings - with and without water
- sandy river beds & vast dry lake beds
- isolated mountain villages
What more could you ask for in 4 days!
Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Ouarzazate. We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to our 3* hotel (about 5 minutes away.)
Day 2 Ouarzazate – Boulmalne de Dades (210 km).
Breakfast. Final briefing, and departure for Dades. After refuelling the bikes its straight off-road, 20 km across a flat plateau and it’s into a sandy twisting riverbed before emerging in the southern foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. From there it’s undulating, fast sections interspersed with rocky trails winding their way through major washouts and gullies. Picnic lunch somewhere up on the plateau. 10kms on road and then onto a beautiful, narrow, sinuous mountain track – so narrow and steep in places that the support vehicle can find it difficult - before we come back out for the final 8 km on road down the fertile Dades Gorge, taking us to our night’s accommodation. We are staying in a new 4* hotel with unusual local decor and spectacular views across the Dades valley towards the High Atlas, offering spacious accommodation and plentiful buffet meals..
Day 4 Remlia – N’Kob (250 km). Breakfast and another early start across the desert towards N'Kob, 30 km through low dunes to our refuelling point at the village of Remlia. Fast winding trails crossing flat, dry lakes, deep sandy riverbeds, and deep "fesh fesh" (bull dust) until we get to Lake Maider where we stop for a drink in a local auberge.
From here we turn North across a very flat plateau on super fast twisting tracks that wind around all the flat topped hills and acacia trees that dominate this area (those of you wanting to attempt some of the numerous sandy dunes that are formed by the wind piling up the sand against these rocky formations are welcome). Don't get any air though, it’s not sand waiting on the other side but big, gnarly rocks. We join the asphalt 30 km from our hotel for this evening in the village of N'Kob, a beautiful riad with a pool and verdant gardens.
Day 5 N’Kob - Ouarzazate (220 km). We start our final day with 30 km on-road before turning North, and off-road, into the palmaraie for some slow twisting tracks alongside the Draa River on the way to our refuelling point in the village of Agdz. After a quick coffee it's a further 160 km of beautiful tracks that wind through the mountains to our final destination in the town of Ouarzazate.
These are new tracks for this year and are so pleasant as there are very few rocks to be found on this section. After dropping the bikes at our garage and checking them over together with our mechanic Hussein for damages we’ll take you to our hotel by minibus for the very welcome end of tour beers.
Day 6 Depart Ouarzazate airport.
